Spraying & Crop Dusting

Aerial spraying of agricultural chemicals in Australia is regulated by State Governments and many agencies including agricultural, EPA, OHS and other agencies like the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).

Spraying chemicals requires careful management as spray drift from any equipment can be harmful to human health, the environment, and livelihoods. Essentially a risk-based approach is undertaken to ensure sensitive areas: crops, livestock, native vegetation, aquatic areas, houses, and other areas where people congregate (e.g., schools etc) are not at risk.

A Windsock is one of the key risk mitigation activities that is put in place and must be clearly visible to the pilot at or near the point of spraying. Windsocks Australia has provided temporary and fixed Windsock installations with Windsocks of various colours to suit the particular application.

Aerial Mustering

Aerial mustering is a uniquely Australian Aerial mustering is a unique Australian activity used mainly in remote areas in the north and west of the country. Over 90 percent of aerial mustering is conducted by rotary wing aircraft and entails locating and concentrating livestock and moving them by means of aerial manoeuvring to desired locations. The sector consists of a group of authorisation holders operating as professional pilots, who in carrying out their tasks provide what has become an essential service to the rural livestock industry.

Medical Evacuations

The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) in Australia sets out requirements for bush and emergency landing strips. Again, as far as windsocks are concerned the CASA requirements typically provide guidelines as to what should be installed.

Viticulture

In the cultivation and harvesting of grapes, and for orchardists, Windsocks are used to monitor the conditions for pesticide drift. This can relate to spraying on the site or drift from a neighbouring site which may contain different crops.

Where vineyards have a cellar door, they often combine the need to monitor spray drift with a branded windsock. We can assist and have extensive capability for branded windsocks.

Country/ Remote Airstrips

We supply Windsocks for country and remote air airstrips for both pastoral and private pilot use. Refer to our Aviation page for further details.
